Welcome to our panel discussion. I am very happy to welcome you all and especially our guests. Framing our discussion today is the notion of speaking about, and foremost speaking about others. Speaking about others cannot help but determine facts which never do justice to realities and thus remain partial. Language depicts and determines. So today, our guests on the panel will discuss the following questions: What happens when the expert speaks about others? Is expertise about others possible at all? What constitutes an expert? Who is trusted and given credit to be an expert and who is not? Who profits from the concept of expertise? Is the belief in experts and the figure of an expert rather problematic or helpful? It is my pleasure to welcome Evelyn Hayn, Sharon Dodua Otoo, Melanie Brazzell, Leonhard Fuest, Vassilis Tsianos and Christian Schütze who is our first speaker. Thank you.
